Sports Massage
What is Sports Massage?
Remedial/Sports Massage Therapy is a skilled treatment combining an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology along with Swedish massage, mobilisation and specialist techniques such as stretching, compression, cross-fibre frictions, Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), Trigger Point Therapy (TPT), Positional Release Techniques (PRT) and Soft Tissue Release (STR). It is designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues with the aim of restoring balance in the musculoskeletal system.
This treatment is not just for the sports person; anyone can benefit from Remedial/Sports Massage. Indeed, occupational, emotional and postural stress may produce similar characteristics to sports injuries.
What to expect from a treatment
During the initial consultation, your therapist will ask for relevant information about your health (past and present), occupation/daily activities, any injuries you may have had, sports, hobbies, etc. This information, combined with a physical assessment, enables the Remedial Massage Therapist to locate the specific problem areas and tailor treatment accordingly. Following treatment an emphasis is placed on postural and exercise advice.
