Healing in Motion - 19th - 26th September 09
Vinyasa Yoga and Healing Massage Retreat
Healing in Motion is a week of mediation, Pranayama, Vinyasa Yoga and an introduction to Healing Massage, set in the glory of the French Alps at the height of Indian summer.
What to expect
Our dedicated and friendly instructor has created a rich and fluid schedule designed for heightened learning, exploration and play. Starting the week with the foundations of healing and massage - creating a sacred space inside and out, grounding and cleansing energy, maintaining healthy boundaries and exploring the beauty of, and differences between, 'giver' and 'receiver'. From here, we will move into an introduction to Self-Healing. By mid week we will be working with oils and learning how to give conscious, compassionate and effective massage. Depending on the groups needs, desires and experience we will cover general anatomy, Swedish/ Esalen Massage, Deep Tissue techniques, Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Head Massage.
Our days will begin with morning meditation and Pranayama. After a break for tea, coffee and fresh juice, we will head back to the ‘Shala’* for an invigorating 2 hour session of Vinyasa Yoga. After a healthy brunch and afternoon break (with plenty of time to explore the stunning Chamonix valley and surrounding mountain sides) we will reconvene for an hour lecture on the bodywork* lesson. After a small snack we will gather for a demonstration of the bodywork lesson, roll up our sleeves and work in pairs to practice the lesson 'hands-on'. Delicious evening meals will be followed by low key evening programmes (i.e. video, guest speakers, discussion, group walk, question and answer opportunity and free time). Fresh mountain air and a Jacuzzi with a direct view of the Alps make for happy dreaming.
The emphasis of the week will be on exploration, playing and taking tools and techniques home with us that can be of help both to ourselves and others.
• Bodywork – To us, true healing happens only when each level of our being, be it mental, emotional, physical or 'spiritual' is in harmony. We use the term 'bodywork' to mean any discipline or technique that approaches this 'healing' by working with the body and the wisdom it is waiting to show us.
• Shala - A place of study where the general aim of the group is to expand our understanding, awareness and knowledge of ourselves, others and the world we live in.
Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa Yoga is simply a conscious linking of breath and body movement. While the Asanas (postures) and other techniques are based on ancient healing practices and rituals, in Vinyasa Yoga there is an emphasis on creativity, dedicated focus and riding the edge of our own limits while surrendering to the perfection of the 'now' moment.
The trajectory of each class is always designed to take the needs of the individual as well as the class into account as we evolve. The ultimate aim of yoga is to increase awareness, consciousness, and true freedom. It is a beautiful life-long journey where health and happiness are by-products of the path. In utilizing the tools of Asana and Yoga we start where we are and work with the body that we have, to develop greater health and joy.
